Fast Track to Excellence® (Analysis & Design) in the Legal Department of the Private Banking Division
(Focus: Germany)
Starting Point
- The bank’s general counsel wanted transparency about the service offering, the service processes and the country-specific requirements of the German legal department (especially in comparison to the US and UK).
- In particular, the organizational set-up of the legal department in Germany was to be critically reviewed (branch structure vs. centralism) and the management behaviour was to be assessed.
- Weaknesses and potential fields of action should be identified and solutions for a reorganization should be worked out.
Approach
- Identifying weaknesses and potential areas for action from the perspective of employees and customers using structured Focus Interviews (51 interviews in total).
- Analyzing the top 4 topics “purchasing”, “organization”, “processes” and “management behaviour” in detail with proven tools & techniques (e.g. brown paper workshops, RACI, “Day in the Life of…”, joint team meetings, individual interviews).
- Analyzing performance figures, cost structures and main cost drivers as well as the employee capacities.
- Providing recommendations for improvements, especially to improve purchasing of external legal services, service processes, organizational structure, client’s interface and management behavior.
- Estimating qualitative and quantitative effects (Benefit Case) including prioritization.
- Providing project designs for more complex and medium to long-term improvements as well as a concrete action plan to realize direct improvement opportunities (“quick wins”).
Deliverables/Benefits
- Organizational and communication measures that can be implemented in the short term to increase the quality of results and improve cooperation (“quick wins”).
- Project designs for optimization in the areas of purchasing, service processes and management capacities; expected cost savings: EUR 2.3 million.
